Rainy Days and Signs of Spring

Rainy Days and Signs of Spring

Hey everyone!

Hope you are all doing well! I want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who read and commented on my last blog. It was so wonderful reading about what helps you all feel connected to yourself and the world around you. I love seeing what you all have to share!

Since my last blog, the temperature has been getting a little warmer. The rain came and washed away all the snow, and I felt a little bittersweet about it. On one hand, I felt sad, since the snow hadn’t been around for that long, and if you read my last blog, you’ll know how much I love the snow. But on the other hand, I feel like one of the reasons the snow feels so special is because we don’t get it very often. Also, it was so nice seeing all the green of the forest unveiled again, especially knowing that it means Spring is right around the corner and will be blooming soon.

When the first heavy rainfall started, I grabbed my umbrella and camera and went to the woods to take photos. The snow had melted, and everything in the forest was more visible. The paths in the woods were free of snow, making it easier to walk around. My steps were less careful, freer. It was so wonderful to see everything after it had been covered by snow for a little bit. The ferns, the moss, the trees, everything looked so beautiful.

As the days went on, the feeling of early spring slowly started to settle in. I loved taking the time to look up close at everything after it had been hiding under the snow. It’s amazing what you notice when you look closely at nature around you. Did you know that ferns can grow on trees? A couple of years ago, I noticed that for the first time. I had thought they could only grow on the ground, but one day, I saw ferns growing on the side of a mossy tree! Apparently it has something to do with there being a lot of moisture in the environment, and it makes it possible for ferns to grow. I never would have noticed it if I hadn’t stopped and made the time to just look at a tree up close.

It was so nice to have the rain come back after 2-3 weeks of snowy, icy weather. I am someone who absolutely loves the rain, it brings me so much comfort and calm. I know it sounds a bit strange since a lot of people associate this weather with a more depressing mood, but for me, it really is a source of contentment. It’s a common occurrence here in coastal British Columbia, but I’ve never ever gotten tired of it. Don’t get me wrong, I can definitely appreciate a sunny day. But the rain makes me feel so at home and at peace. There is something about it that speaks to a deep part of my soul.

In Judaism, we actually believe that rain is a blessing. We believe it is something special sent from the Universe directly to all of us on Earth. This is because rain benefits all of the plants and the trees, the crops that bring us food, it provides water to the animals… It is clear how beneficial and important it is for our planet. Beyond the physical benefits of rain, there are spiritual ones as well. I often feel that it washes away the negativity and stress that can bring me down, like it’s cleansing in a way. Rain nurtures our bodies, and I really believe it does the same thing for our souls.

I find it is so important to have things that help us feel refreshed and nurtured in life. To have things that keep negativity away, and help us feel at peace. If you don’t mind sharing, I would love to know what helps you feel refreshed, what restores you when you feel down? It could be anything, maybe a self-care practice, a meal, a quote, or even a specific person you love talking to. I really do love seeing what you have to write, it really contributes to this space.

I also want to share that I am selling my wood burning art again! I had the shop closed for a little bit, but it’s open now, and I have some pieces available. I am also working on some new ones that I’ll hopefully have ready in a few weeks. If you want to see what I have in stock, you can click here to browse. And if are interested in seeing some little behind the scenes videos of the wood burning process, you can follow my instagram page.

Spring is coming, and nature is slowly but surely waking up. I hope that you are all taking care of yourselves and making space for good things in your life. With longer days coming up, it means more time and energy for what we love. Remember to stay connected with what you love, to those parts of you that are most in alignment.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

I really love this one! Something that makes me feel refreshed is spending time outdoors, especially in the springtime. I feel like I can get lost in my own head, but feeling the wide open sky above my head always reminds me that it’s a great big world out there beyond my own thoughts and feelings.
Spring always makes me extra excited to get outside for all the fresh new sights and smells. I don’t dislike the winter by any means, but anytime a new season approaches, I get excited to greet it and spend time engaging with what makes it unique.

I LOVE THESE PICTURES SO MUCH <3
I’m in awe of your photography skills Sarah, because to me they really capture a moment in time where I could feel lost through immersing myself in the scenery. These images are absolutely nuts!

The past few years I have struggled to find certain ways to feel refreshed amidst the daily stressors. It doesn’t help when I have a relatively short attention span when it comes to trying different methods. Recently, I’ve learned to enjoy alone time a lot more, where I just let myself get cozy and do things that I want to do for me. This usually takes the appearance of playing a relaxing game that I can get lost in for hours, which lately has been the game “Aloft” :)

The lesson I realized from this was that I have this intrinsic desire to be appreciated for the activities and interests that I am passionate about. This comes with self acceptance and self love, because the more that I authentically choose myself and what I want to do, the more that I feel re-energized to carry on with my life.

I also owe a lot of credit to the wonderful family and friends I have in my life. After years of therapy and growth, I have the emotional intelligence to know when I need to ask them for help. This may look like asking for silent company or to have a spontaneous night out. I am especially thankful for all the new friends I have been making lately :> I don’t know where I would be without them. And one of the quotes my mind frequently returns to comes from one of my fav Disney movies: Lilo & Stitch.

“This is my family. I found it, all on my own. It’s little, and broken, but still good. Yeah, still good.”

Such beautiful photography Sarah c: Also yay to your shop being open again. I can’t wait to see what beautiful art pieces you will make!

Some things that keep me refreshed is talking to close friends such yourself and our lil discord/twitch friends and spending time with my loved ones. When i’m feeling down I tend to try to take care of the minimum such as eating yummy food, nap, shower usually helps.

Looking forward to your next blog post, proud of you always 🫶
