Rainy Days and Signs of Spring

Rainy Days and Signs of Spring

Hey everyone!

Hope you are all doing well! I want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who read and commented on my last blog. It was so wonderful reading about what helps you all feel connected to yourself and the world around you. I love seeing what you all have to share!

Since my last blog, the temperature has been getting a little warmer. The rain came and washed away all the snow, and I felt a little bittersweet about it. On one hand, I felt sad, since the snow hadn’t been around for that long, and if you read my last blog, you’ll know how much I love the snow. But on the other hand, I feel like one of the reasons the snow feels so special is because we don’t get it very often. Also, it was so nice seeing all the green of the forest unveiled again, especially knowing that it means Spring is right around the corner and will be blooming soon.

When the first heavy rainfall started, I grabbed my umbrella and camera and went to the woods to take photos. The snow had melted, and everything in the forest was more visible. The paths in the woods were free of snow, making it easier to walk around. My steps were less careful, freer. It was so wonderful to see everything after it had been covered by snow for a little bit. The ferns, the moss, the trees, everything looked so beautiful.

As the days went on, the feeling of early spring slowly started to settle in. I loved taking the time to look up close at everything after it had been hiding under the snow. It’s amazing what you notice when you look closely at nature around you. Did you know that ferns can grow on trees? A couple of years ago, I noticed that for the first time. I had thought they could only grow on the ground, but one day, I saw ferns growing on the side of a mossy tree! Apparently it has something to do with there being a lot of moisture in the environment, and it makes it possible for ferns to grow. I never would have noticed it if I hadn’t stopped and made the time to just look at a tree up close.

It was so nice to have the rain come back after 2-3 weeks of snowy, icy weather. I am someone who absolutely loves the rain, it brings me so much comfort and calm. I know it sounds a bit strange since a lot of people associate this weather with a more depressing mood, but for me, it really is a source of contentment. It’s a common occurrence here in coastal British Columbia, but I’ve never ever gotten tired of it. Don’t get me wrong, I can definitely appreciate a sunny day. But the rain makes me feel so at home and at peace. There is something about it that speaks to a deep part of my soul.

In Judaism, we actually believe that rain is a blessing. We believe it is something special sent from the Universe directly to all of us on Earth. This is because rain benefits all of the plants and the trees, the crops that bring us food, it provides water to the animals… It is clear how beneficial and important it is for our planet. Beyond the physical benefits of rain, there are spiritual ones as well. I often feel that it washes away the negativity and stress that can bring me down, like it’s cleansing in a way. Rain nurtures our bodies, and I really believe it does the same thing for our souls.

I find it is so important to have things that help us feel refreshed and nurtured in life. To have things that keep negativity away, and help us feel at peace. If you don’t mind sharing, I would love to know what helps you feel refreshed, what restores you when you feel down? It could be anything, maybe a self-care practice, a meal, a quote, or even a specific person you love talking to. I really do love seeing what you have to write, it really contributes to this space.

I also want to share that I am selling my wood burning art again! I had the shop closed for a little bit, but it’s open now, and I have some pieces available. I am also working on some new ones that I’ll hopefully have ready in a few weeks. If you want to see what I have in stock, you can click here to browse. And if are interested in seeing some little behind the scenes videos of the wood burning process, you can follow my instagram page.

Spring is coming, and nature is slowly but surely waking up. I hope that you are all taking care of yourselves and making space for good things in your life. With longer days coming up, it means more time and energy for what we love. Remember to stay connected with what you love, to those parts of you that are most in alignment.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

What a beautiful post, yet another one. I always enjoy your reflections; they do run so deep and never stay just in the surface, seeping through the layers of nature and life, your words are full of wisdom and such a clean, simple, grounded perspective. The joy of the small things, an eye for the details, reading your blog is like bringing a magnifying lens to the world and seeing through what normally does not get noticed. Absolutely love it Sarah, i am proud of you.

Such a joy reading your valuable wisdom and insights from nature, Sarah!💛 A good reminder of how much we miss out on when we don’t stop to pause or slow down. Also made me feel grateful for the seasons, and reflect on how often, periods of darkness or rain can feel depressing but are SO needed in order to receive the most light. Your beautiful photos and words make me feel like I’m being transported into the forest. I love it. Similar to you, spending time outdoors (preferably by the water) makes me feel refreshed ✨

Another round of gorgeous captivating photos!! I started painting by numbers during corona, and found it was something I really connected with and enjoyed. Whenever I feel down, or that I haven’t done anything creative for a while, I pull one out and paint. Thank you for the another wonderful read.
Love you lots! Xx 🥰

Wow Sarah! Lots of deep perspective this week🪬
There is so much food for comment and conversation in your post, but I will step back a bit, because your message is a very important one.
You mentioned about our Jewish mesorah (tradition) and rain, and those commentaries related to what rain brings to the earth, via deep wells, springs, subterranean streams, above ground streams, brooks, creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes and ultimately oceans, seas, clouds then the return of rain.
The purifying nature of ground water, returning to the surface via many different means is a major component in Kabbalah (our mystical traditions), for example, Mikvah, and its connection to womanhood, the lunar cycle and procreation. And with spring, and seasonal rebirth coming closer, this pre-spring waterfall, is very much a purification for the rebirth of life.
As we are told (in our trations), that everything in nature has a soul. All plants, animals, minerals (rocks, crystals, gems, metals) in their natural states, are connected to the ultimate source of spiritual power. Grass in fields, grow towards the light and sky, in prayer. Birds in morning and evening, sing in prayer, etc.
The water from rain supports and sustains the miracle of life, and as you said, is a Bracha (blessing).
Thank you again for your wise words, your spiritual insight and the inspirational hints at the mystism that surrounds us in nature
Kol TUV, and I love you 🫂😘❤️🪬 Dad
