Snow Storms and Connection

Snow Storms and Connection

Hey everyone!

I hope you’re all doing well. The last two weeks since my first blog have flown by, and I’m excited to be writing another one and sharing some pictures! Thank you to everyone who read my last one, all of your support and kind words mean so much to me.

In the last two weeks, we finally got some snow where I live! I always love when it snows, so I was very excited to see it in the forecast. The first day when it started, I was outside with my camera and tripod, and there was only about a centimetre of snow on the ground with some very light flurries coming down. I felt a little bit disappointed, but I stayed outside and waited, hoping it would snow more. All of a sudden, within 10 minutes, the snow started to come down a lot, like a full-on blizzard! I could barely see in front of me. It honestly made me so happy to see, since I was almost ready to give up and put my camera equipment away.

Once the snow picked up, I knew I had to go into the woods. There is something so special about seeing the snowfall while walking through the forest. Watching as the snow slowly covers everything as the minutes pass, how everything gets so quiet, and peaceful. The whole energy of the world changes when it snows, and it’s so refreshing to experience.

A few days later, the snow stopped and the sunny weather arrived. It made for some amazing views of the snow-covered scenery. I absolutely love how the mountains look after a fresh snowfall. I think it looks so breathtaking, and the view becomes even more beautiful.

I’ve lived in British Columbia my whole life, and I’ve realized over the years that nothing feels quite as special as the snowy weather. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about it, but to me, it feels like coming home. Maybe it’s the nostalgia from childhood, since snow days were often peaceful, quiet, and relaxing. So, whenever it snows, a little bit of that feeling surfaces again, bringing a sense of calm. Maybe it's how the snow brightens up the world, which is especially nice during the dark winter days. Or how hushed the world becomes, or how refreshing the air is. Whatever it is, it’s definitely an experience in nature that feels unique.

I think it's so amazing that we all have things that make us feel connected. Isn’t it so wild that something like weather, or nature, can make us feel this way? As time goes on, I’m learning to cling to these feelings, to hold them close. They are what help us feel alive, remind us of who we are, especially when things are difficult, and that is so extraordinarily important in life. It's one of the reasons I started this blog, to have a little corner of the internet that felt like a peaceful, happy place to be. No pressure to anyone reading, but if you’d like to, please feel free to share what makes you feel connected to yourself and the world around you in the comments below the blog! It could be anything. I’d love the hear!

I hope that wherever you are, there are things in your life right now that fill you with happiness and ease. Even something small, like a photo, or a song, can help, and remember to keep it close for when you need it. There are so many things in the world that we can draw joy and comfort from.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Love the way you captured such a picture of how the snow makes you feel and how calming it could be. I grew up in a really cold part of Canada, but seeing the intial snow fall brings me back to the little me who enjoyed making snow angels at recess.

One way I feel connected to myself is to cook my mom’s recipes, especially the foods I grew up eating. There’s just a sense of comfort of bringing a piece of home, away from home 🫶

Thank you for sharing as always Sarah! The pictures of the rocky snowy mountains are so surreal.

I couldn’t agree more with everything you said!
Even though it doesn’t rain here often, when it does, I love watching it from my window while sitting on the couch drinking something warm and gazing over at my wood burnings! The feeling of being cozy is something that can’t compare to anything else.
It’s supposed to snow here next week, so hopefully there will be more of the cozy feeling coming soon!
Another great post Sarah, thanks for sharing💗

This was so nice to read! When I was growing up, it used to snow so much in my hometown. The nostalgia I feel from even just seeing pictures of snow brings back memories. I remember sledding with my friends, making (rough looking) snowmen, and rolling around in the snow until I got frostbite. I love these pictures you took! They show a genuine peace.

One way I feel connected in my life is when I do long drives by myself. My hometown is about 6 hours from where I live now but I truly enjoy making the drive home alone. I especially like driving at night, where I find a quiet peace. Something about the darkness is comforting to me, and those drives make me appreciate the alone time I have to think and enjoy music.

Thank you for the wonderful post Sarah! Looking forward to the next one!💙

I am so captivated by the way you write. The section where you talk about the snow reminding you of your childhood and going back to that feeling each winter is something so many of us can relate to. A smell, a piece of art or even something as small as a pin, when given the right amount of love and cherish can hold so much memory. They remind us of the times of joy or even sorrow and should be evidence of our resilience as human beings.

I’ve been taking more trips into my hometown and just letting myself feel all the emotions when it comes to the memories that surface. Spending time with a friend yesterday gave me a reminder that life is so much more than work. So much more than spending sleepless nights working toward a goal. I’ve been trying to live life like a Ghibli movie and embrace the small and mundane to keep me connected. Healing little Charli <3
